safe pet travel -- NO tranquilizers

..... the most commonly used drug in the past .. was an equine tranquilizer, known as "ace" or acepromazine .. a drug used to sedate horses prior to surgery. "ace" as we know it today is the worst and most dangerous drug to be given to either a dog or cat prior to flight.

...... the reasons to avoid administering "ace" in any form ... tablet, injection, etc are as follows ....the drug slows down the respiratory rate of the dog and cat; the drug alters the ability of the pet to control its body temperature, the drug causes peripheral vasodilation ... pooling of the blood at the periphery of the body, and not circulating in the central body core in the vital organs.
